英語學習的誤區
我是一名英語教師，我喜歡教英語，因為這樣我可以有許多死心塌地的學生。現在我想把一些我認為英語學習中的常見誤區跟大家交流。
第一誤區就是把五種技能學習變成單一的看懂。大家知道我們習慣上把英語學習分解成五項技能，聽說讀寫譯。這樣分解是否科學，在此暫且不論，有不少學習者往往把是否看懂當成學習的標准。比如說，拿到一本口語教材，翻開幾頁一看，都看懂了，就認為太簡單了，對自己不合適。這里的錯誤是把看懂代替了會說。看懂不等於會說。練習口語，內容不能難，目的是通過一些能看懂的內容來操練「上口」。也就是說，目的是讓學習者通過練習，自己能說出書中相關的內容。口語教材的優劣首先要看語言是否能學到，是否地道。
第二誤區是把知識當成技能。打個比方，假如你想學騎自行車。我給你一本題目叫「如何騎自行車」的書，把書從頭背到底，甚至倒背如流。這時你有了專家級的關於如何騎自行車的知識。但是你肯定不會騎。原因是騎自行車不是簡單的知識問題，它首先是一項技能。要學會一項技能，核心問題是練，光有書本知識是不行的。學外語當然比學騎自行車要復雜得多，但它首先也是一項技能，光看語法書，默背單詞是遠遠不夠的。必須練，要把知識變
成技能。知道不等於知道怎麼做，知道怎麼做不等於實際上會做。從知道怎麼做到實際會做中間有個反復練習的環節，也就是苦功夫。學技能所遵循的原則是「做中得學」。
第三個誤區是速成心理。必須認識到，要想學好英語，非得下一番苦功不可。世界上沒有一個外國成年人不下苦功就能學好英語的。所謂的「速成」純屬無稽之談。學好英語沒有捷徑，只有方法的好壞。比如記英語單詞，低著頭拼著命地默寫，這就不是一個好辦法。好的方法是大聲地朗讀，反復訓練發音器官和耳朵，把聲音銘刻在腦子里。這樣既可以提高聽力，又可以改進口語發音，還記了單詞。默寫只是訓練了眼睛和手，可是它們不能替你聽和說。
第四個誤區是通過漢字記音。現在有人推廣通過漢字來記英語發音，如「古帝拜」記good-bye。甚至把這種做法作為成果出版請獎。這是極其錯誤的，後果也是極其嚴重的。大家千萬不要這么做。錯誤的道理在本文有限的空間里無法講清楚。
第五個誤區是重結果不重過程。應試教育是重結果，帶來的後果是整天做模擬題，找出打勾的規律。這是教育的大敵。質量和學習效果取決於學習過程。大家一定要遵照學習的規律，一步一個腳印地真學。只要學習對路，好的結果自然會有。
第六個誤區是對教師的依賴。大家要仔細揣摩我們常說的一句話：師傅領進門，修行在個人。這句話點出了學習的本質。任何一種學習，歸根結底是在學生自身，而不是在老師。
第七個誤區是缺乏系統性。現在市場上學英語的材料是鋪天蓋地。這是好事，但處理不好也會帶來不良的後果。今天用這個教材、明天換另一個教材，學習便失去了系統性。我不是說我們不 要換教材，不好的教材，不適合的教材就是要換。但不能總是換個不停。好的做法應該是選中一套教材，以它為主，其餘材料都作為補充材料。
我認為一個成功的學習者要具備下面6個要素。一是自信心，二是決心，三是毅力，四是自我管理，五是自我約束，六是求知的童心。我在這里作些簡要說明。
先談自信心。如何樹立自信心有許多方法，我在這里強調的是不能傷了自己的自信心。一定不要過高要求自己，不能看到別人嘰里呱啦說英語，就覺得自己不行。要看到自己一點一滴的進步，要想到的是積沙成塔，積流成河，而不是一步登天。
第二是決心。我們往往是多次下決心而從不付諸行動。所以大家在下決心的時候要把決心變成具體的學習計劃。如制定周、月和學期計劃 甚至是哪一個時間段應該學完什麼內容都明確下來，通過這些計劃把決心變成行動。
第三是毅力。毅力就是說不能三天打魚，兩天曬網。這是學好外語的大忌。我們今天學到的新東西，都是貯存在我們大腦的臨時記憶里。臨時記憶的東西有的只能保留幾秒鍾，最長的難以超過三天。假如你對貯存在臨時記憶里的東西不進行再利用(recycling)。把它們從臨時記憶貯存到長期記憶中，大腦就會把它們自動清除掉(因為大腦要保護它自己，不能把所有的臨時信息都存著)。所以，一定要有反復學習的毅力。這里說的反復學，不是說去機械地重復原來學的東西，而是創造性地使用學過的東西。如把原來的聽力變成朗讀，把原來的朗讀變成聽力等。
第四是自我管理。你們中的許多人都是一身數任的人，有工作上的責任，有家庭上的責任，有親朋好友的人際關繫上的責任，等等。這些責任如果處理不好，都將跟你們的學習發生沖突。所以自我管理的能力顯得特別重要。
第五是自我約束的能力。你們中的許多人都是成年人，享有很高的自由度。在學習上你們沒有上課時間的約束和老師的約束，這既可以變成有利的條件，也可以變成不利的隱患。關鍵在你有沒有自我約束力。假如你是足球迷，你能抗拒住足球賽的誘惑而去做作業，你就有了自我約束力。
第六是求知的童心。兒童見到不知道的東西都想知道，不會的都想試一把，而且不厭其煩地問個沒完。假如我們學外語也有這顆求知的童心，我們就不怕學不好英語。你見到一樣東西，不妨就問自己英文怎麼說。不怕出醜，不厭其煩，孜孜不倦，你一定能夠學好英語。
我要強調的是，學好英語絕不是一個簡單的方法問題，而是一個「全人」的問題。所謂「全人」，英文叫"a whole person",就是素質全面的人。在此祝你們早日成為學好外語的一個全人。
